To me, this quote means that being rich in personality is more important than being rich with money. Money cannot buy you friends, well, at least not friends that like you for who you are. I guess you could pay people to be your friend, but they would only like you because of your money. This quote portrays an important life lesson that one's values are more precious than possessions.
